Supabase project paused: requests fail until it is resumed
Requests to your Supabase project fail because the project is paused. The project still exists, but it does not process requests until the owner resumes it. This applies to apps made with AI app builders such as Lovable, Bolt, Base44, Replit or v0 that use Supabase as their backend.
Why it happens
Supabase pauses Free Plan projects that show low activity over a 7-day period to save server resources. A paused project cannot process requests until it is un-paused by the owner. Requests to a paused project return a 540 project paused status, and connections to its hostname resolve as NXDOMAIN even though the project still exists.
Possible causes
- The Free Plan project received too few user database queries over the past week, so automatic pausing applied.
- The project was paused on request by the owner.
- In rare instances, the project was paused due to abuse.
Official fix steps
- Open the Supabase Dashboard. (supabase.com)
- Check your project list for a Paused status, and resume the project if it is paused. (supabase.com)
- Select the organization, followed by the paused project. (supabase.com)
- Click Resume project and confirm. (supabase.com)
- To prevent future automatic pausing, upgrade to the Pro Plan from Billing Settings. (supabase.com)
