Sign-up confirmation emails never arrive
A new user signs up, waits for the confirmation email, and nothing comes. They never finish signing up, and you never hear about it. It worked when you tested it yourself a couple of times.
Why it happens
Supabase's built-in email service is meant for testing, not real customers. It sends only a small number of emails per hour, and it may only deliver to addresses on your own team. Once you pass the limit, emails silently stop. Messages from a shared default sender also land in spam more often.
Confirm it
- Sign up on the live site with a brand-new email address you haven't used before.
- Check the inbox and spam for 5 minutes.
- In Supabase, look at Authentication → Logs for email or rate-limit errors.
Fix it
- Set up an email-sending service (many have free tiers) and verify your own domain with it.
- In Supabase, go to Authentication → SMTP Settings (or Emails → SMTP), switch on custom SMTP, and enter that service's details. Use a sender on your domain, e.g.
hello@myapp.com. - Make sure the link inside the email points to your live site. That's set by the Site URL in Authentication → URL Configuration.
- Test again with a fresh address.
